Please help keep our expert PEPline clinicians right where they are needed: answering your calls!
At the Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Hotline (PEPline), we are proud to have served clinicians throughout the U.S. for the past 25 years with free, timely, peer-to-peer telephone consultations on managing exposures to HIV and hepatitis B and C in the workplace. The PEPline is built into the fabric of how we ensure that healthcare workers remain safe from bloodborne pathogen transmissions. With our readily available telephone consultation, we have been part of ensuring zero occupational HIV transmissions to healthcare workers in the U.S. since 1999.
We have recently experienced deep funding cuts that threaten our ability to provide the timely advice clinicians are used to when they need it. Despite the invaluable service we provide and increasing demand for our expert consultations, our federal funding has dramatically declined. We need your help to continue providing clinical decision-support for managing occupational exposures throughout the country and keep our national workforce transmissions at zero – no new occupational HIV transmissions.
Even with great advances in HIV prevention and treatment, exposure to HIV and hepatitis B and C is a real risk in many occupations. The calls we receive every day remind us of how critical access to advice remains for the thousands of occupational exposures that still occur daily in the United States. Since 1997, the PEPline has provided over 150,000 consultations on managing occupational exposures. In 2016 alone, we provided almost 12,000 occupational exposure consultations. Clinicians call us because they know they will receive state-of-the-art guidance that is tailored to making critical case-by-case decisions regarding the use of PEP, screening tests, and providing healthcare personnel with peace of mind.
We are asking you to donate and/or to forward to your networks who might support our crowdfunding campaign. In order to reach our fundraising goal of $200,000, we need donations from everyone – healthcare workers, clinicians, healthcare facilities, employers and leaders in the field. Can you help us sustain the PEPline?
On behalf of the thousands of exposed healthcare workers and clinicians who benefit from the PEPline, as well as from our committed staff: Thank you for your generosity!
